A Return to Milan – Day 1 – Part 3 – The Piazza delle Culture and Its Surroundings

As we continued to explore, we came upon two elementary schools.  The building pictured above is the Scuola Monviso I.C. Via Linneo, and is at Via Monviso, #4A.  The one pictured below is around the corner from the first one, and is the Scuola dell’Infanzia Comunale Mantegna, at Via Andrea Mantegna, #8.

The Piazza delle Culture, also known as Piazza Antonio Gramsci, captured our attention with its large colorful murals.

The piazza is dedicated to the memory of Teresa Sarti Strada, a local teacher who, together with her husband, Gino Strada, founded Emergency NGO, an organization that developed humanitarian and healthcare facilities in struggling nations, such as Sudan.

Next up: We wrap up Day 1, and begin Day 2 with a visit to a local street market!
