Forio – Day 1 – Part 1 – Goodbye, Ischia Porto… Hello, Forio d’Ischia!

The Chiesetta di San Girolamo is at Corso Vittoria Colonna, #114.  The church dates back to 1301.  A plaque, on the facade of the building, commemorates the 400th anniversary of the marriage between Vittoria Colonna and Ferrante d’Avalos, which occurred in 1509.

We headed back to the apartment, to take a bit of a rest, before heading out again.

A crowd was gathering outside a local bar/café, to watch the football (soccer) game that was being televised.

Soccer fever was in the air, and even in the palms!

At one point, earlier in our stay in Ischia, we met the owner of the Riva Destra Ristorante, who invited us to stop by and try his restaurant, while we were in town.  We chose our last night in Ischia Porto, to dine there.

The meal was delicious!  We allowed the owner to order for us, and we were given a wonderful, raw-seafood plate, as well as bruschetta.  Our main plate was a seafood pasta, which was a perfect dish to have, while sitting right on the side of the port.  Of course, we had to finish off our meal with two glasses of Piperna, a local Amaro.

After dinner, we headed back to the apartment, to go to sleep, as we were leaving for Forio, on the other side of the island, in the morning.  We had booked a few days at the Sorriso Thermae Resort & Spa.  We wanted to take advantage of the thermal waters that Ischia is known for, and rather than do a day pass at one of the public thermal establishments, we booked a suite, with our own private thermal jacuzzi, for the duration of our stay.  So, the next morning, after a quick breakfast, we got into a taxi, and before long, we were at our next destination.

The best part of the room was the private, outdoor space.  It was wonderful!

Next up: More from Forio d’Ischia, as we settle in, and begin to explore!
