Carini – Day 2 – Part 1 – A Sunny Sunday Morning

The Duomo of Carini, pictured above, and also known as the Chiesa Madre Maria Santissima Assunta, is right in the middle of Piazza del Duomo, and was directly in front of our B&B.  The facade of the church dates from the 18th century, while the rest is from the 15th century.  We wanted to visit the interior of the church, but every time we attempted to do so, there was either some sort of service taking place, or it was closed.  And, just a note for anyone hoping to travel to Italy, or anywhere else , for that matter: It is considered rude to tour a church, or any other religious building, while services are going on.  There are notices posted on most church doors,  reminding you that the church is closed to tourists, during holy celebrations.  Nonetheless, I have seen many people ignore the sign, and go in, just as usual.  Please, be respectful!  If for some reason, you feel you must go inside, while a mass is being celebrated, please, keep yourself quiet, and do not take photos!  So, for the reasons I have just listed, we chose not to visit the interior of the church, and instead focused on what was outside.

The Monumento ai Caduti stands in front of the Duomo, and pays tribute to those citizens who lost their lives during the Fourth Italian War of Independence, from 1915 through 1918.

We found ourselves in front of the Cimitero Comunale di Carini, the town’s cemetery.

Next up: We visit the Castle of Carini!
