Erice – Day 2 and Part 1 of Day 3 – A Foggy Moving Day, Followed by Sunny Skies

On our second day in Erice, we awoke to two surprises.  The first was the cloud that had settled right on top of the city.  At times, the fog was so thick that one could not even see a few feet in front of oneself.  The weather forecast called for rain for most of the day, so we pretty much knew that the day was not going to be one for any type of sight-seeing, especially as most of the indoor sites were closed for the season, even churches.  Our second surprise was that there was no water in the apartment.  Apparently, after speaking with the owner, we discovered that there was a problem with the pipes, or something like that.  He was going to try and get it fixed.  Later in the day, he called us back, and said that it was not possible to repair the problem as quickly as he thought, and so he had arranged for us to stay in another apartment, owned by a friend of his, just a short distance away, five minutes by foot.  So, we had no choice, but to pack up our things, and proceed to move to the next apartment.  We did manage to take a few pictures of the town enveloped in the fog, before we left, and those are posted below.

The next day, our third in Erice, the sun was back, and all was right with the world.  We were in a new apartment, with running water!  After a quick breakfast, we headed out to explore more of the town, now that we had the cooperation of the weather.

A plaque marked the building where the cavalier, Giuseppe Coppola, died in January of 1902.

Next up: We visit the bell tower, and the Real Chiesa Madrice Insigne Collegiata di Erice!
