Porto Empedocle – Day 2 – A Sunny Day by The Beach

On our second day in Porto Empedocle, we decided to stay close to the apartment, exploring the immediate area.  The neighborhood was made up of private residences, some of which were used as summer houses, or as vacation rentals, like the one where we were staying.

As we walked, we discovered a flight of fairly steep stairs leading up the hill.  Of course, we decided to see where the stairs led, but once we were past the halfway mark, the condition of the stairs seemed to deteriorate a bit, and so, we thought it was best to turn around, and head back down.

As we headed back towards the apartment, we passed a restaurant, called Osteria La Lampara, and it looked quite inviting, so we made a reservation for dinner that night.

We walked along the beach for a few minutes, and then, headed back to the apartment for a short nap, before getting ready for our evening.

Dinner at Osteria La Lampara was a fun experience!  The food was plentiful, the price was right, and we left very happy.  Now, this restaurant is not for everyone.  First thing: Only fish and seafood are served here!  No meat is included in the meal.  The second thing is that there is no menu.  Everyone pays one price: €25 for dinner, per person.  That gives you multiple dishes of antipasto, all fish and seafood based, one or two pasta dishes, followed by grilled or fried fish, and, of course, a small dessert.  Oh, did I say that the wine and bottled water are also included in that price?  The wine arrives in a carafe, along with a bottle of some kind of sweet lemon soda, which you combine with the wine.  It was delicious!  For two people, you will spend €50, and leave extremely happy, wishing you could plan another meal there, in the near future.

Next up: We stumble upon the remains of a Roman villa, and much more, as we continue to explore Porto Empedocle!
